Responsibilities

  1. Reviews, evaluates, designs, implements and maintains company database(s):
  2. Creates database design specifications based on understanding of business transactions.
  3. Creates database objects (tables, etc.).
  4. Creates and maintains database definitions and tables.
  5. Designs, codes, tests and implements custom database scripts and formal procedures.
  6. Ensures data integrity; recommends action to maintain data integrity; establishes process / procedures for ongoing data cleanup.
  7. Monitors and maintains databases for proper performance tuning.
  8. Designs, implements and maintains data retention and archival; plans for storage needs, retention, backup and recovery.
  9. Designs, implements and maintains database security.
  10. Assists in identifying and resolving database problems.
  11.  Identifies data sources, constructs data decomposition diagrams, provides data flow diagrams and documents the process.
  12. Designs and writes codes for database access, modifications and constructions, including stored procedures.
  13. Develops cloud solutions involving Azure SQL DB implementations for applications and/or Azure Synapse for Business Intelligence
  14. Develops ETL packages for the enterprise data warehouse and other data integration activities
  15. May lead small, less complex projects
  16. May be responsible for addressing security related items.
  17. Remains informed on trends and issues in the industry, including current and emerging technologies and practices both in on prem and cloud databases
  18. May participate in indoctrinating interns and / or new employees.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline. Equivalent combination of experience and education will also be considered. May begin pursuing pertinent certification(s), such as the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), Oracle Database Certified Professional, Microsoft SQL Solutions Associate (MCSA) or Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP).
  2. Minimum 2 – 5 years related experience monitoring and improving databases for proper performance, security, backup and replication procedures in a corporate environment with multiple locations required.
  3. Preferred experience includes:
    1. SQL Server:

→ Database Mirroring, Log Shipping, Replication and Clustering or workload management on cloud SQL servers

→ Database Installation and maintenance

→ Security implementation and management   

→ Reporting Services (SSRS), Integration Services (SSIS) and Analysis Services (SSAS)   

    1. Cloud databases (Azure SQL DB, Azure Synapse)
    2. MySQL and Oracle DB
    3. Other relational databases such as PostgreSQL
    4. Systems Development, including design and coding (physical and logical database design)
    5. Server and database-level performance tuning
    6. IP networking, Active Directory knowledge
    7. IIS, XML, VMWare ESX Server, or Windows server administration experience
  1. Ability to implement and maintain simple to moderately complex databases.
  2. Ability to understand and diagnosis situations in a time sensitive manner. 
  3. Must be detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple assignments effectively. 
  4. Requires a professional demeanor with a high degree of flexibility, responsiveness and self-direction.
  5. Work is typically focused on short-term objectives (6 months or less) and reviewed frequently for assessment and direction.
  6. Ability to participate in a 24/7 rotating on-call coverage is required.
  7. May consult on non-routine issues with more experienced staff.
  8. Requires effective communication skills to convey status, ideas and concepts in a team environment.
  9. Demonstrates working knowledge, practical skills and the ability to perform work under moderate supervision.
  10. Ability to resolve database problems for all environments.
