Job Summary

Information Commons Leads at Gateway Community and Technical College, ensure the accurate and secure dissemination of information to students, staff, faculty and the community, are an integral part of our college's student retention and success initiatives. Information Commons leaders foster a collaborative, inclusive, and student-centered environment, while organizing and facilitating the day-to-day operations of the Information Commons desk.

Job Duties:

  • Providing excellent customer service, while sharing accurate information with students, staff, faculty and the community
  • Connecting students and the community to appropriate departments, programs and resources
  • Documenting service provided to the Gateway community by correctly completing Information Commons tickets
  • Mentoring, training and supervising Information Commons work study students. Working with Information Commons staff and students to keep the desk area organized and uncluttered, maintaining a comfortable and safe working environment
  • Scheduling personnel to cover the desk during hours of operation and completing secondary tasks as assigned by department heads.
  • Other duties as assigned
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree, or equivalent, in Communications, Library, Business, Computer Technology or related field
  • 1 year of relevant experience
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; independent; self-motivated; able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment and external business and community partners, representing himself/herself professionally and courteously.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and, in writing.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Word).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in and understanding of working with students from diverse populations is preferred.
  • Experience working at the community college level is preferred.
