Xavier University’s Office of Residence Life seeks a Director of Residence Life to oversee all aspects of housing for 2323 students, directly supervises four central office staff and indirectly supervises 8 additional staff members, as well as 64 Resident Assistants. Primary responsibilities include vision and planning for housing processes, financial/revenue goals, and budget administration. The Director of Residence Life is a member of the Departmental Leaders within the division of Student Affairs.  

Job Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Responsible for the overall leadership and planning for the mission/vision of the department. Ensure the Jesuit mission of Xavier University is incorporated into the Residence Life program.  
  • Ensure the development of an effective Residence Life program which supports the social and academic lives of students living on-campus and supports the 360-degree wrap-around student services.   
  • Supervise departmental staff. Provide oversight and guidance to professional staff members responsible for departmental processes such as RA Recruitment and Selection, RA Training, Residential Curriculum, etc.
  • Oversee the work of the Housing Operations Team and be a liaison between budget office, VPSA, and Auxiliary Services.  Provide oversight for all Housing Selection processes, assignments/billing, break periods, associated opening/closing processes, etc.
  • Provide on-call coverage for the department and be in collaboration with other Directors in the Division of Student Affairs and other University Colleagues for important or crisis situations.
  • Oversee the Residence Life budget ($1.1 million) and provide guidelines for spending within the department to ensure proper use and management of University funds.         
Job Requirements:
  • Master’s degree required in Higher Education, Student Personnel, or related field.
  • 5-10 years of related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Residence Life specialization.
  • Knowledge of residential life programming, including selecting, training, and management of student and professional staff.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships, build consensus and support.
  • Advanced communication (written and verbal) skills, analytical skills, and project/process management skills.
